Oxalis dillenii Jacquin
"The three-heart-shaped leaflets of each trifoliate leaf, the round or radially symmetrical flowers (about 1 cm across in this species), and the pungent flavor of oxalix acid when a leaf is chewed, are characteristic of Oxalis. (Two similar species in our area, O. corniculata, and O. stricta, also have yellow flowers; O. violacea has violet flowers.) One or more of these low erect perennials are common in lawns, old fields, disturbed areas, and along roadsides throughout Florida and other states of the central and eastern United State" (Bell & Taylor, 1982, p. 123).
"Yellow Woodsorrel - Oxalis stricta Annual to short lived perennial, upright, with single tap root, spreads by seed. Leaves of three, heart shaped, pale green and bitter to taste due to presense of oxalic acid. Bright yellow flowers have five petals. Prolific seed producer, pods will scatter seed for several feet when touched" (http://faculty.valenciacollege.edu/tklenk/botany/weeds/weeds.htm).
