"Ancient Wanderers," a Poem for Treasure Hill by Jelle Roos

Ancient Wanderers
by Jelle Roos

Ancient wanderers, hear me!
You who hunted and planted this land,
You the two-leggeds who lived with the four-leggeds and standing ones,
Whose bones and blood now enrich this soil,
New wanderers come to live beneath these oaks and pines.

Old-time settlers, listen!
You who claimed this land,
Who logged it, farmed it, and sold it to satisfy your desires--
Let go your claims.

Now, this land is mine!
My hopes planted in this soil will blossom into happiness,
And all my works will result in peace.

Saint Senara’s Prayer

Saint Senara’s Prayer

May your soul always recognise the divinity in another;
May your heart embrace the gifts of grace each has to offer,
And hear the song within even the humblest sea shell.
May you find joy in each others laughter,
And peace in each others eyes.
May the tide carry you to the shores of imagination,
In a boat made of your most precious dreams.
May all your prayers be answered,
As you write them in the sand.

Sand Blackberry

Rubus cuneifolius Pursh

"The white, tomentose, undersurface of the leaflets quickly identify this erect native Blackberry. (The leaves of R. argutus, also with erect stems, are green beneath; the Dewberry, R. trivialis, is prostrate.) Sand Blackberry occurs along roadsides, woodland margins, and in clearings throughout Florida and north into the Carolines" (Bell & Taylor, 1982, p. 151).

Vintage birdbath to be turned into altar table.

Digging for Mermaid Crackle Glass

Amateur archaeologists Malaren and Jackie are hunting for crackled blue glass while theorizing about the original object the glass came from. Good-for-nothing weeds were nixed and findings were celebrated with glee.

Way to go, Malaren!

Way to go, Jackie!

Sizzling Blueberry Cobbler. Sweet revenge from the Florida WBCCI Rally 2013 cobbler soup. Thank you Todd for squeezing and zesting the lemon.

Jelle enjoyed our cobbler. On the menu e also had slow cooked (10+ hours) Vegetarian Three-Bean Chili and Winter Day Dinner with burned-out turkey. Jackie and Jelle brought Garbanzo Salad, bread, butter, and beer.

Todd made Ice Tea from scratch.

Easter Cook-Out

Princess of fire starting, rain, wind, or shine. Leslie and Malaren had much better success than I had in getting the fire for the coals to spark.

Our first Dutch camp oven tower. Delicious Hamburger Rice Casserole sans mushroom soup on the bottom and undercooked Caramelized Carrots on the top.

Supper.
